Cash for Classrooms Contest Begins October 18!

Del Monte Fresh produce is launching an online contest called Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms. Beginning October 18, each week, for five consecutive weeks, ten K-12 public school teachers will be selected win $750 in cash and $250 in fresh fruit gift certificates to purchase school supplies for their classrooms. The fruit is for classroom snacks and to encourage healthy eating habits.

To apply, teachers need to register online and submit a short essay (up to 500 words) describing how the funds will be spent. Winning is based solely on the number of votes received online so encourage friends, family, parents, and students to get online and vote!

PBS Teachers is an amazing new resource for pre-K-12 teachers. You will find thousands of lesson plans, videos, interactive games, and simulations to use in your classroom. You will also have access to PBS Teacherline which has 130 online professional development courses in Language Arts, Math, Instructional Technology, Instructional Strategies, and Science. Resources are organized by grade level and subject.

KU Awarded $1.95 Million to Develop Online Scientific Inquiry Game

Thanks to a three year $1.95 million dollar grant from the National Science Foundation, a team of researchers and developers from the University of Kansas will design and develop a computer-based game intended to engage middle school students, and their teachers, in scientific argumentation. Win $25,000 for your School!

Intel is currently accepting applications for its prestigious Intel Schools of Distinction awards. Awards are given to schools that demonstrate exemplary instruction and innovative learning environments in math and science. Eighteen finalists are chosen from the applications three in each grade group: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Each finalist will receive $5000 from the Intel Foundation and a trip to Washington D.C. for the awards ceremony. (more…)

Evernote was created to solve just that problem. With Evernote you can take a snapshot of a flyer or business card, save documents, texts, or notes from any computer or phone to be synced and accessed from any internet-connected computer or phone. The feature that makes Evernote unique from other similar applications is that if you upload an image that has printed or handwritten text, it becomes searchable by keyword or title within your Evernote account. Virtual K-12 Schools

Most states have fully accredited online courses available to public, private, and homeschooling students who want to earn class credits but don’t have a wide enough variety of courses offered in their school or district. This is a great way for high school students to earn credits and get ahead on their classes, take advanced courses, or make up courses they may have missed. Most virtual instruction programs also offer a full-time, tuition-free online public school program which is a great choice for families who may need a home-based program for student health reasons or otherwise. Most online schools also have tuition-based options for non-residents. Here are a few online programs you can look into, many states have several programs available that might not be listed below. If you don’t find your particular state on the list, contact your state department of education to find out if they have a program available. (more…)
